Sunday
Dear diary: today I'm going to England on an exchange with English people. Which I think will be fun.I only hope that the trailers I'm stuck in aren't too small. (RP)
The disco and cinema (on the boat) opened at 10 pm, but of course THAT was the time the teachers were going to check if you were in you room so that they could take your boarding card because you wouldn't need it that evening would you?? I didn't sneak out, because getting caught could possibly mean…on your way home in a rowing boat!!!! (LD)
Monday
We stood up very early the next day (six o'clock), thanks to Thomas, who was still confused between Dutch and English time. (TH)
We drove to Newcastle's city centre and we were allowed to do some shopping and get used to the new English air and people. At first I had the feeling I was on the other side of the world and nobody would understand me if I talked to them. But after we visited some shops I felt pretty comfortable with the language. (TB)
Surprisingly, we didn't even get lost. What happened? We walked round in a circle, so we ended where we started. (CL)
Then we went to meet the girls (woe hoe!!!), so I was pretty exited. It turned out to be fun I met a lot of nice girls but there where some things that caught my eye: some how all the girls seemed to be fatter and smaller then our girls, but they were very open about things which I liked. Still I had never appreciated Dutch girls as much till then. (RP)
After 15 minutes I arrived at my host house. It was a bit of a shock first, because my host house was a pub. (MS)
Tuesday
I woke up at about six o'clock and it was freezing. Seriously, it was like -50 degrees in the trailer, because we didn't want to leave the heating on all night, in case it would explode. (TH)
Then our coach arrived and we went to The Deep, an underwater world, which was very fascinating. We saw a lot of sharks and glowing jelly fishes. (LH)
In the afternoon the English girls joined us and we went bowling and to the cinema. I think that when we were together with all of us as a group we all had fun and it was really nice. (YK)
Wednesday
Around lunch we went back to the Hornsea College to follow some lessons but first we had lunch on the school. After a really tasty lunch I went with my partner to Science where we did an experiment that was a lot easier than the ones we have to do. After Science I went to French. (MS)
Their French (at Hornsea school) was so easy! Everything they learned, we had that about two years ago. To my opinion their educational system runs behind ours. (LD)
Thursday
First we visited the York Minster, which was a beautiful cathedral. After that we visited the Jorvik museum. I thought that it would be very boring, but it didn't. We had to sit down in some sort of cars and we 'travelled' around 'the York of the Vikings'. It all seemed so real, because they made the humans out of wax. And the little huts were made out of wood and even the smell there made it feel real, it was a terrible smell. (MM)
This evening we had a social evening together with the boys. It was really fun to see boys, who never get any attention from girls in the Netherlands, surrounded by a lot of girls here. When we got at the house, I had to pack my stuff, and I bought a lot and I am surprised I got all into my bag. (SW)
Friday
WAAH!!! We had to leave today!!! I felt very sad when I woke up, I didn't want to get up at all. I thought that, if I would hide under the blanket, I could stay here. But I couldn't. I said goodbye to her father, mother and brother and almost hugged them to death. I had to promise that I'd come back. We walked to school and Jess and I kept on hugging and talking how the week had been and that we didn't want me to leave. Perhaps she could hide in my suitcase? (MM)
The boys also had some time to say goodbye to the English girls, since a lot of them had become friends with the English girls also. It was hard to say goodbye. Some of us were even crying. It's strange how much of a bond you can get with someone in such a short time. (TH)
Saturday
Home bound; at last! This morning we arrived in Amstelveen at 10.25. Now I realize that our school is much better than the one of Katie, in Hornsea. Glad to be home again but I am really, very tired. (LD)
I hope we'll do anything like this again in the future, how about going to America next year? (JS)
