Most students who choose for TTO know what two major trips to expect in the second and third year: Canterbury and London. We have one thing to say; those two trips were amazing and a great experience! We actually didn't expect that they would be this much fun. We thought we would be visiting museums non-stop and making boring assignments in between. But this wasn't the case at all! Especially in London we had a lot of diversity in our activities.
Our trip from Amstelveen to London was really exhausting. It took approximately 11 hours to get there. We arrived around 12 O'clock, meaning we still had half a day to explore London. And so we did. All 75 TTO3-students walking through the streets of London. Half of them walking like zombies, the other half running around from excitement. Talking about exploring London in one afternoon, with Mrs. Smits ahead of us walking in major tempo, which we could barely keep up with, this is possible! We visited the Museum of London, walked across the Big Ben, London Eye, begged Mrs. Smits for a lunch break at McDonalds which we luckily got, continued walking to Buckingham Palace and were right on time at our host-families at six o'clock!
The next day we visited the British Museum. It was a really nice, organized museum which had an enormous collection illustrating the story of human culture from its beginning to the present. We didn't stay too long in the museum. However, most of the students had a pleasant time over there.
After visiting the British Museum, we were allowed to go shopping in Oxford Street! Many students went crazy after seeing the busy street and uncountable shops in Oxford Street, knowing they would never be able to visit all shops thoroughly in one time. All fascinated, we slowly mixed with the crowd of English people, not knowing which shop to visit first.
Back at the coach, students were carrying a huge amount of bags. The bag that was the most common was the Abercrombie & Fitch bag. Well, let's be honest, who doesn't want to visit the Abercrombie & Fitch store where they have the nicest clothes and the cutest salesmen & salesladies?
We are sure that all students had a great time in Oxford Street!
The third day we visited the Tower of London. This was very interesting and seeing all crown jewels was amazing! After visiting the Tower of London we walked to Covent Garden where we got a short time for shopping. After shopping, we went to the musical Joseph, which was a really nice musical!
On the fourth day of our trip, we didn't stay in London. We went to Cambridge to go sightseeing there. Once arrived in Cambridge we got a guided tour. Our guide showed us amazing things like the different universities, buildings and statues. This was quite impressive. Especially the universities were impressive. They are namely very famous worldwide and we got to see with our own eyes and hear interesting stories about.
After our tour through Cambridge and its universities, we were given some time to go eat something or to go shopping. After an hour or two we met up again with the whole group and went punting in the canals of Cambridge. Punting should be relaxing but once we started, it soon became a race between the boats. Although, not all boats participated equally. Some girls were together in one boat which wasn't such a success. The only thing they were doing was turning rounds instead of going straight ahead! Nevertheless, it was really much fun and it was a really great ending of all our activities which we did during our school trip.
Well, that was about it. The thing that made our trip really fun was that we were given freedom and the opportunity of staying in a real English host family. Surely every day we were given some free time to go shopping or to have a drink in between the activities or whatsoever. This kept every student satisfied. We can say without any doubt that everybody enjoyed everything we did until the last moment! At least we did, that's for sure!
