On Monday 10 January 2010 the school finals of the speech contest in the 2nd and 3rd year bilingual classes were held in the cafeteria of the Hermann Wesselink College. The subject this year was My Passion is
.
The finalists from the second years, Sanne Verheul (2A), Vincent Meijer (2A) Shalini Bisram(2B), Babilo Rashid (2B), Carlijn Blom (2C), Willem Shi (2C), Sanne Weber (V3A), Sam Moleman (V3A), Zoe Eekhof (V3B) Isa de Wolf (V3B), Daan Voskamp (V3C) and Loraine Jonker from the 3rd years were fiercely competing to win this contest.
The atmosphere was tense and full of expectation as Shalini started off. The audience, consisting of all the other students from the finalists' classes, showed involvement and listened intently. They proved to be as supportive as we hoped they would be. Not only did the contestants have to give a nearly flawless speech, they also had to answer critical questions from the audience and a panel of IB students from years 5 and 6 consisting of Maurits van Rhijn, Max Seignette, Rogier Habets.
The jury consisted of Margot Bak, IB-student in year 6, Mrs Koster, deputy head andMrs Smits coordinator bilingual education.
While the audience enjoyed listening to great music provided by Hannah, Bob, Angelina Pleun and Jesse and refreshed themselves with some soft drinks, the jury took their leave to decide on the winners. In the end they agreed that although all the speakers showed excellent quality and dedication to their chosen subject, the speeches of Sanne and Zoe were the most engaging and convincing. Shalini and Isa were chosen to be the runner-ups. The two winners of the contest are going to represent our school in the regional rounds of the Junior Speech Contest which will be held at RSG in Enhuizen on 14 February 2011.
I would like to thank Mrs Catharina Payne for organizing this afternoon.
