In Dutch we call it TTO but in English it is called bilingual education. That means that at least 50 per cent of the lessons are taught in English. You will learn to speak and understand the English language very well and very quickly. But bilingual education is more than just learning English alone. During your 6 years with us you will develop something that is called 'international awareness'. We hope that, through TTO, you will become an inquiring, knowl- edgeable and caring young person who will help to create a better and more peaceful world. After six years you will get a vwo diploma, a TTO certificate, and possibly an English IB certificate (International Baccalaureate). These documents will give you a privileged position when you apply for English speaking courses and to universities both in the Netherlands and abroad.
However, before you start your international career you will have six interesting and chal- lenging years ahead of you at the Hermann Wesselink College. You will learn many new things, meet new people and you will be offered many opportunities to experience other cul- tures. Apart from the regular lessons, the TTO department also offers a varied programme of activities. These activities take place in the Netherlands but also abroad. An example of such an activity is the trip to Canterbury in the second form. You can read about some of the experiences that our students had this year further on in this brochure.
